At Chawton Hill, we believe company culture is paramount in shaping success – both for the business and the individuals working here. As the business continues to grow, we’ll be looking to expand our team, adding great people to our existing expertise. We value individuals who share our passion for construction, and bring relevant experience and skills to the table. But we know that in 2025, new recruits are often looking beyond the basic package when considering their options.
Our commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment goes beyond the workplace. By investing in our employees’ growth and celebrating their contributions, we continue to build a stronger, more innovative future together. In this article, you’ll discover a little more about what it is like to work at Chawton Hill.
Support Throughout Your Career
The construction industry is suffering from a major skills gap. Just this month, the new president of the RICS warned that 250,000 extra bodies are needed in the next three years. With a deficit this high, every company in the industry needs to do their part to attract and retain talent.
At Chawton Hill we take this responsibility seriously. We recruit at all levels, from newly qualified graduates to experienced surveyors. Whatever stage you are at, we’ll support you to upskill and continue to train.
Our directors help team members as RICS mentors, supporting surveyors through the APC chartership process. We encourage and support our employees to gain chartership to enhance their career opportunities.
We also encourage our employees to volunteer to support the next generation of construction professionals. Through our network of local schools, members of the team often attend career fairs to speak to young people about the careers in construction.
Work that makes a difference
At Chawton Hill, we are lucky to work on a wide variety of interesting projects across the south of England. Working with us means you’ll get experience across a broad range of sectors including residential, commercial, community and local authority buildings.
We love working on projects which serve the communities in which we live and work. Providing exceptional education facilities for schools and colleges is a core area of our business and stretches back to our incorporation. Working with us, you’ll experience a wide range of projects within the education sector, from working on refurbishments at Eton to animal care facilities at NESCOT college.
Another specialism is primary care facilities and ambulance make-ready centres. The ambulance hubs differ from traditional ambulance stations and require careful thought. They provide a single point of servicing and repair. This allows regular and easier maintenance, improving availability and making a real impact to the delivery of emergency care.
Projects such as Scout and Guide centres, church halls and leisure centres are all vital community hubs. Our team understand the importance of getting them right for the communities they serve. Whether supporting with RAAC, improving energy efficiency or inclusive design our team are proud of the work they do, and the positive impact it has on a local area.
The Fun Stuff
Of course, a fulfilling day job is important. But, we believe it is also important to spend time together away from the office. From team outings like go-karting and Segway safaris to charity initiatives like running marathons and abseiling for good causes, we believe in creating a well-rounded culture. This helps our team form stronger bonds with one another, creating a support network in an industry as highly pressured as ours.
