At Chawton Hill, we believe that giving young people an insight into the built environment is an important part of supporting the future of our industry. Last week, we welcomed Year 10 student Gabriel from Halliford School in Shepperton for a week of work experience, giving him the opportunity to experience life at a chartered surveying practice.
Gabriel joined the team after meeting our Managing Director, Dave Edwards, at his school’s careers fair. During the week, he spent time both in the office and out on site, gaining an understanding of the varied role chartered surveyors play across refurbishment, project management and building safety projects / legislation.
Working alongside members of the Chawton Hill team, Gabriel was introduced to planning and CAD software, observed how projects are managed, and learnt more about the importance of communication, teamwork and attention to detail within the profession. The placement also gave him the chance to ask questions, meet different members of the team and gain first-hand experience of the construction industry.
Reflecting on his week with Chawton Hill, Gabriel said:
“Overall, the experience has broadened my understanding of the profession, strengthened my interest in the field and given me a much clearer picture of what a career in surveying involves. I am very appreciative of the entire team for making me feel so welcome, taking the time to share their knowledge, and for the enjoyable conversations we had throughout the week, which made the experience even more rewarding.”
He added:
