Building Ambulance Make Ready Centres – for years paramedic staff were responsible for cleaning, restocking, fuelling and maintaining their ambulances at the beginning and end of every shift. This was a time consuming process that took specialist care staff away from looking after patients.
“make ready systems must be put in place across the country to drive productivity”
Lord Carter, Unwarranted Variations
The South East Coast Ambulance Service, who we’ve worked with for over 10 years building Ambulance Make Ready Centres , established that the following improvements in productivity could be realistically delivered by a Make Ready Centre;
• Improved infection control rates
• Critical vehicles failure rates cut from six failures per day to six per month.
• Deep cleaning – 100 per cent of vehicles are deep cleaned every six weeks in Make Ready Centres versus 75% outside the Make Ready system
With Ambulance Community Response Posts (ACRPS) located in local, high demand areas, the net effect of the Make Ready system is improved patient safety and care, personnel well-being and unit hour availability with reductions in cross infections, critical vehicle failures and costs.
