James joined Chawton Hill as a senior surveyor in 2013 having worked for another practice in Dorking for 7 years. His experience at his previous practice was quite broad. He worked on a number of large scale residential refurbishment projects across London and the South East, using JCT and NEC3 contracts. James also did a lot of party wall and defects diagnosis, and refurbishment projects in hospitals.

Since moving to Chawton Hill, James has gained experience in other sectors. He has worked on a number of insurance reinstatement projects (residential and healthcare) and in the role of expert witness. More recently, James played an important role on the larger SECAmb make-ready ambulance centre schemes. He is also involved in large scale regeneration projects for local authorities including the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.

After a while, James was promoted to principal surveyor/team leader, then associate director. In 2018, he became a director and shareholder in the business. Having worked as a surveyor for around 17 years, James became chartered in 2009 and got FRICS about a year ago. He has particular interests in construction contracts and construction law.
