Chawton Hill has been leading the development of the Ambulance Make Ready Centre programme for over 9 years.
We are delighted to have been appointed by North West Ambulance Service Trust to carry out a number of site feasibility studies. This is the first step in developing their Ambulance Make Ready Centre (MRC) programme.
North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) cover an area of over 5,400 square miles and a population of 7.5M people. With around 6,300 staff in over 300 different roles, NWAS have over 1,000 emergency and non-emergency vehicles operating across the North West of England.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the country, work is gathering pace at South East Coast Ambulance Service’s latest MRC in Brighton. The project is taking shape, as can be seen from this set of site images.
The final image was taken from the approximate location of the Ambulance Crew room looking across to the Ambulance service & MRC bays. This Ambulance Make Ready Centre will have parking for over 40 response vehicles. It will be able to accommodate over 80 staff. With the project around a third complete, we are hoping to see the first ambulances on-site by the end of the Summer next year.
An interesting aspect of this MRC is its proximity to The Keep, an archive centre for over 900 years of Sussex history from East Sussex Record Office, Brighton and Hove City Council, and the University of Sussex. We had to consider carefully an exclusion zone around The Keep for flammable materials such as petrol and oil stores and the site’s electricity substation.
This is also the first MRC to include a vehicle brake testing and wheel alignment bay, upgraded vehicle hoists to future-proof the facility for the latest ambulance vehicles and a CO2 reduction score of more than double the local planning authority’s 10% target improvement.
